The World’s Surprises

The world never tells
What secrets it hides
It only waits gleefully
Jumps up, yells, “surprise!”

The laughter of a crowded bar
the orange sorbet of the sky
Are balms to our burned skin –
They ease time on by

But the sting is never quenched
Each surprise leaves its mark
And makes the world seems ever stranger
ShadingImage the once-lit path with hazy dark
