A breath of fresh air in the FISA and NSA debate

David Simon (co-creater of The Wire) gives his take on the NSA and FISA surveillance. After reading this, I realize that our debate should be focused on public oversight of FISA and the privacy of our internet communications. A knee-jerk, “government tyranny! I was right!” was my first reaction to this news, and it’s a satisfying one. However, it doesn’t provide the platform for a useful debate over public policy in the way that this blog post does, which is the only way policy will change at all. So, while I may disagree with his dismissive tone and his assertion that the government monitoring the metadata of our calls and internet communications is acceptable until it is abused, I welcome this post.
